FAQ

A few of the most common questions I’m asked. If you’ve got a question that isn’t explained below, get in touch and I’ll be happy to help.

Current price and flavour list can be downloaded here

  • Your wedding cake is a unique work of art made personal to you, an investment of time, taste and looks. And so I have a minimum spend of £550 which includes an in person consultation (where possible), a cake sample box and a hand drawn sketch of your wedding cake. The price of your wedding cake is dependant on a number of factors. The number of guests you wish to cater for. I suggest catering for between 80-90% of guests, to avoid wastage. My smallest 3 tier cake will give approximately 70 wedding portions. Decoration will determine the final cost, depending what you're looking for, for example sugar flowers, textures, different shape and height of tiers, (round, square, hexagon etc) Delivery and set up is calculated seperately and is dependant on mileage to and from your venue, also the amount of time needed to set up your cake.

  • Yes I do, indeed it's one of the requirements to book with me that I deliver and set up your wedding cake on the day of your wedding. I deliver to venues all across Scotland and will liaise directly with your venue to deliver at a time that suits us all.

  • My current flavour list can be downloaded at the top of this web page. It’s fairly extensive, but I believe that having a good choice is important, some flavours can be mixed, for example a lovely chocolate sponge can be teamed with a caramel sauce and buttercream, or maybe you prefer strawberry conserve with vanilla sponge - the possibilities are endless! It’s about having that perfect sponge flavour inside your beautifully decorated wedding cake!

  • It’s easy to book! Either fill in the contact form, at the top of the page, or email me at caroljamescakedesign@gmail.com. I will check your date and if it’s available I ask for a £100 booking fee, payable via bank transfer to secure your date and confirm the order. Once this is paid, your date is secure and you can relax.

  • As part of my service you would receive a complimentary cake sample box containing 5 of my most popular sponge flavours and some tablet favours for you both to share and to help with the flavour choice of your cake. This would be offered to coincide with an in person consultation around 4-6 months before your wedding day; held at my studio in Cumbernauld we discuss all the details of your cake and wedding over a cup of tea. There we will design your cake together. After our meeting I will email the final cost plus a hand drawn sketch of your cake for your approval. The final balance is due to be paid one month before your big day. Changes to your design and flavours can be made up until this point. Once balance is received I ask that no further changes are made.

  • I encourage you to collate all your ideas of design, colour, theme, stationary fonts and anything else you like onto a mood board or folder and bring with you to your consultation. Inspiration photos are welcome too, however I provide a bespoke service and will design your cake with your ideas and cake dreams in mind. You will be included in this process at all times - the cake is your thoughts and dreams, it should reflect all the elements you love.

  • Unfortunately I do not cater for allergies. My studio kitchen has gluten, dairy, nuts and soya within it and I would not be able to guarantee cross contamination. However, I am happy to cater for intolerances to gluten and dairy.

‘Thank you so much for making our beautiful cake for our wedding. Not only did it look amazing, but it was also delicious. Marc was amazed at the sugar flowers and could not believe the skill you have in making them!’
